Why are games like Call of Duty, or FIFA so popular?

Games like Call of Duty, FIFA, and NBA 2k have been putting games out consistently year after year. They charge $60 dollars each game, and they rarely change much from year to year. Yet, they still manage to be some of the best selling video game series on the market. I’ve always wondered, “Why?”. Why the hell do these games sell so many copies every year? They don’t change enough to warrant the $60 price tag.

I think it is the same reason people enjoy watching sports. It’s a constant in their life. Due to the fact that they never change, they always know what they’re going to get. They always have something to look forward to every year. Which is always nice to have, I myself watch the Overwatch League and look forward to it every year.

Life can be chaotic and change often. Jobs come and go, people come and go, and whatnot. But with these video games, people can count on one aspect of their life being constant. They know that they will get the same thing every year. FIFA and the other sports titles more so than Call of Duty. Call of Duty does change enough to be considered a new title. This creates a weird situation for the Call of Duty League. Which I will be discussing in a post on Sunday or Monday.

I always thought the fact that they are the same every year, and still sorta do. Now, I’m not so sure, I understand why people enjoy it so much and I am not so judgemental about it.
