Response to January 28th TWAB from Bungie
Wow, there is a lot to cover here and just about none of it is good. I hate to write negative things about Bungie, but the next few articles I write are probably going to be pretty negative. Keep in mind, I don’t write from the perspective of someone that dislikes Bungie or Destiny, I have been a loyal fan of Bungie and Destiny since September 2014. I have 6000+ hours in the franchise and I hate to see that Bungie is ruining it with awful decision-making and blatantly ignoring their community.
This is the TWAB I am referencing.
Now, the fun begins…
Seasonal Challenges
In an effort to make the season pass leveling process feel “fresh”, Bungie has decided to give us seasonal challenges as another avenue to earn XP and bright dust.
The issue with this is that these are simply bounties in another form, and they blatantly ripped this idea off from Fortnite. This is hilarious since they already stole the idea of a season pass from them as well. Great, more copying and less innovating, that’s what we like to see from a game studio.
Bright Dust
It looks like we are going to have a bunch of new methods to earn bright dust. That’s a nice change since they completely butchered the old method of getting Bright Dust, which was dismantling Shaders, Ships, Sparrows, and Shells from Eververse. The old system was great since you received 500 Bright Dust for every exotic you dismantled.
Mouse and Keyboard (MnK)
A bunch of weapons on MnK are going to have more recoil to bring them closer to console performance. I’m not a fan, but I also have experience playing on Console, so this change isn’t the end of the world. Not all of the weapons are being entirely butchered and it is only happening since they plan on releasing Cross-Play this year. Which is something I am looking forward to very much!
Buffs
Rocket Launchers have been given a generous 30% buff, which could shake things up substantially in terms of PvE (Player Versus Environment). Hopefully, this makes Rocket Launchers meta again, although it more than likely will not do so.
Fusion Rifles are receiving a buff to their range and stability, which is cool since I suck at PvP and Fusion Rifles are a nice crutch.
Breech load Grenade Launchers also received a buff, that’s cool, I’m too impressed since it seems like a PvP (Player Versus Player) buff and I don’t care too much for PvP.
Nerfs
Snipers have received increased flinch, which seems silly to me since I suck at sniping. Yet, a lot of the higher tier PvP players seem to think that Snipers don’t get flinched enough and that the flinch seems to force the scope to their head, which achieves the opposite effect they are trying to achieve.
Swords have had their damage reduced by 15%, I knew this was going to happen, yet it still sucks. I dislike it when Bungie sees that something is good and says “Oh boy, this sure is good for PvE stuff like raids, dungeons, and strikes. Let’s nerf it.”
Bug Fixes
They fixed a few bugs for certain exotic weapons that would lose their buffs when you would pull your ghost out. This change is pretty pointless, but I understand why they did it. Although, if they changed Tarrabah to maintain it’s exotic perk or your progress towards it when you swapped weapons it could potentially be a solid pick, but Bungie doesn’t want it to be good.
Sturm can reload your special weapon and Merciless isn’t broken anymore, good fixes, not much else to say there.
Conclusion
Most of the TWAB was disappointing, disappointing enough that the PvP community was in an uproar due to the fact that Bungie has yet to address Third Person Peaking in PvP. Bungie is starting to make more and more questionable decisions that are ruining the game. This sucks since Destiny is my favorite game and I can’t imagine myself enjoying any other game as much as I have enjoyed Destiny. Maybe Bungie will get their shit together soon, who knows? Time will tell.
