Playing Destiny 2 feels like a chore now and I hate that

As the title states, I do not find enjoyment in the game like I used to. Keep in mind, this is coming from a loyal fan of the series since the first day of Destiny 1. I used to always log in to Destiny 2 ready to play a long time. I was happy to be on the game and rarely considered any other games as an option.

Until the Season of the Dawn.

Now, I understand why they are doing things the way they are. With it being tough to consistently push out good content on a regular basis. But, even the little bit of content is unenjoyable for me.

With the Season of the Dawn, Bungie reintroduced an NPC from an earlier expansion, Osiris. I’ll admit, he is sort of an interesting character, yet, I do not care for his story or his missions at all. They also, SPOILER ALERT, brought back the character: Saint-14. I thought this revival would be badass, yet, it was quite uneventful.

Not only did they include some NPCs, but they also introduced obelisks, time lost weapons, and the sundial.

The obelisks are located in five different areas, Tangled Shore, Mars, Nessus, EDZ, and The Tower. They are an object that you can interact with to obtain various items. Such as the timelost weapons, weekly bounties and other mods and boosts for your character. While they are a fun addition to the game, they are a pain in the ass to upgrade. They cost Polarized Fractaline, which can be obtained via a few methods. First, triumphs that are related to the season of the dawn. Second, complete playlist activities such as Crucible, Gambit, or Strikes. The issue there is that they don’t drop consistently. Last, you can do bounties for 100 a pop. You get 8 on each character, 3 characters, which means 24 bounties for 2400 a week. The issue here is that the bounties are very tedious and feel more like a chore than a fun thing to chase for. Which is not why I play Destiny. I don’t want my gaming experience to feel like a chore.

The timelost weapons are cool, some of them have interesting rolls and are actually pretty good weapons. The only issue with these is the fact that you MUST farm the rolls you want before the season ends. Thus, making it feel like more of a chore to play than a fun experience. The only way to obtain these is to do bounties that cost Polarized Fractaline, or the Sundial.

Now onto the Sundial. The Sundial is a 6 player, matchmade activity. It was fun in the first run or two, but after that, it just becomes another chore needed to farm for the timelost weapons. Where this activity went wrong is that it feels like a clone of the Menagerie. The only difference is that the sundial has fewer encounters. Thus, less variety to each run you do.

All in all, the Season of the Dawn is not an exciting season. I only have been playing it due to the limited time seal that they are offering. But, even going for that is not fun and simply feels like a chore, it’s miserable. The nice thing about this season is that it has given me time to play other games that I had ignored previously due to Destiny’s existence.

I have been a fan of Destiny for a very long time, I have sunk over 4000 hours into both games. So saying negative things about the game is not easy for me to do, but I do it. I do it because I want to see this game succeed and last a very long time. I don’t think with the current model that it will last very much longer. I hope that changes are made in the future and my articles about Destiny can be about positive things, rather than negative things.
