Dual Destiny: Why is the community allergic to socializing?

A month ago, Bungie released a new secret exotic mission titled “Dual Destiny”. This mission requires you to be in a fireteam of two, no more and no less. This is the first mission of it’s kind and has some fun and interesting two player puzzles for Guardians to solve.

The reward for clearing is an Exotic Class Item for the class they clear it on. After clearing, said Exotic Class Item is placed into the loot pool for Pale Heart patrol chests and can drop from the Pale Heart public event “Overthrow”. These Class Items roll with 2 perks from Exotic Armor pieces and can lead to some really strong builds. Like a Warlock with Heart of Inmost Light + Star Eater Scales using Song of Flame.

Any who, this mission is peak design and very much gives off Whisper or Zero Hour vibes. It’s my favorite mission that they’ve added in a long time. Many people share in this sentiment, although it’s generally the more skilled portion of the community that loves the mission.

For some reason, there is a HUGE uproar of negativity and backlash being thrown at Bungie for this massive win of a mission. Why is that? Well the most common complaint seems to be the fact that they aren’t able to solo the mission. Not that they aren’t skilled enough, but the game just won’t allow it. You can’t load in without another person in the fireteam and the mission is (currently) impossible to do with only one guardian.

For the unaware, Destiny 2 is a looter shooter with MMO aspects. One of those aspects the social aspect, you’re not meant to do all of the content alone and are often encouraged to find people to help you clear some of the hardest content in the game. I fully understand why someone would want to put some tunes on or watch a show while doing random things solo. I also understand that people have social anxiety, shit, I have social anxiety. But this is one mission, it’s not the end of the world. Bungie even implemented a system recently that should alleviate the issue, it’s called fireteam finder. An in-game LFG system that allows players to team up and take down all sorts of content.

I really hope Bungie ignores the shitty feedback and continues to make fun, unique, and interesting activities without letting the solo players hold them back.
