Destiny 2 Weapon Review: Deafening Whisper

Deafening Whisper is an Energy Grenade Launcher. It is a breach-load Grenade Launcher and is a Wave Frame. Wave Frame means that it when it hits the ground a wave of energy shoots forward in a straight line. It’s just like Martyr’s Retribution, but void and with different perks.

How do I acquire this weapon?

This weapon came with the Season of the Hunt and the Wrathborn Hunts. You can slot it in your Cryptolith Lure and get it at the end of a Wrathborn Hunt. These are fairly quick so farming isn’t too tough, the hardest part about farming this weapon is having to charge your Lure, then there’s the fact that you don’t always have the option to roll the weapon you want.

Perk Pool

PvE

Deafening Whisper shines in PvE, especially in tight corridors or in hallways where the enemies are in a straight line. It works best for red bar enemies and can also be good for Majors. I can not see a scenario where it will be king for DPS, but for ad killing it is superior.

Best PvE Roll

This weapon has a lot of fantastic options for PvE, but the best perk combination in my opinion is Ambitious Assassin and Wellspring. Ambitious Assassin overflows the magazine to 2 when you get a kill before reloading it. Wellspring gives ability energy on kills to abilities that are on cooldown, the more abilities that are on cooldown, the less they all receive.

PvP

This weapon is pretty awful in PvP, which is no surprise since it’s counterpart, Martyr’s Retribution is also pretty awful in PvP as well. It doesn’t one-shot kill reliably and there are far too many options that are much better than it. Even if you are wanting to use a grenade launcher the Truthteller with Blinding Grenades is much better in the same slot.

Best PvP Roll

As I said, this weapon is awful in PvP, but I still can decide a good PvP roll. The two best perks for PvP are Surplus and Wellspring. Surplus gives better handling, reload speed, and stability for every fully charged ability, and Wellspring gives ability charge on every kill. Good synergy + the fact that all the other perks are awful for PvP.

Conclusion

PvE: 5/5

PvP: 1/5

Farming Difficulty: Easy

In PvE, this weapon is a great alternative to the Martyr’s Retribution, but will not replace it for me until I get the roll I want. In PvP, it is a waste of your energy slot but there are certainly worse choices, not many, but they are out there.
