[Destiny 2] Bungie has started to crack down on macro users, but…
They need to address the issues that made people use macros in the first place.
August 19th, Bungie made a change to their Restriction and Ban policy. They will now start restricting or banning users that are found using macros or auto hotkeys to earn “loot” in game. Meaning that if people use macros to farm the new exotic class items or to farm experience for the season pass and subsequent power level boost that comes with experience points.
Hopefully these aren’t retroactive, and they only ban players found to be using them after the policy change. Banning people that used macros years ago would simply be lunacy.
But, why is it that people felt the need to abuse macros in the first place? Simply put, the systems that Bungie has designed are flawed and people used macros as a way to circumvent said systems.
First is the season pass leveling system and power level system. People tend to farm experience with a macro so that they can reach the desired power level while being away from the computer. The alternative being that they grind away at bounties and seasonal challenges for an obscenely long time. As someone who has engaged in this grind, it sucks. It is overly tedious and mind numbingly boring.
Second, the introduction of Exotic Class Items. Exotic class items, for those who may be unaware, offer the player two exotic perks from a pool of pre-existing exotic armor perks. These class items are the catalyst to some insane builds, yet, they are obscene to farm. Both perk pools have 8 available perks with ZERO duplicate protection. That means there’s 64 potential combinations. There are two ways to farm these class items. Either you run the mission that initially dropped it, which can take 20 or so minutes running casually. Or you can farm chests & Overthrow events on the Pale Heart. The drop rate there is HORRIBLE and you typically get 1 or 2 an hour.
Bungie has mentioned wanting to make it easier to farm for the class items, so the community will have to wait and see if the change makes it feel less awful to farm them.
